The USDA’s studies have used the Coriander plant as an organic method to control aphids which have been one of the worst pests in lettuce fields. Coriander is intercropped with the lettuce plants and is allowed to flower to attract beneficial hoverflies, whose larvae of which eat up to 150 aphids per day before they mature into flying adults.

Thus, Coriander not only is used in the world’s cooking menus but is being used to reduce pest damage in an environmentally safe manner.
